The first meeting of the Charter Lions Club was April 10, 1979 under the leadership of Charter President Brungs and Charter Secretary Irvin R. Huddleston, Charter Treasurer was Loin Dennis George. The Lions Club meeting was at Davis/Mobr Buffet located at Bridgetown Rd. and 6610 Glenway Ave.
I have enclosed the few Lions Club project 1979 to 1984. The fund raising was the Big 36 Raffle and Benson Fruit cake sale. After 1984, the major Lions money raising was the Benson Fruit Cake Sales. In the years 1984 to 1994 the fund raising was approximately $ 8,900. There were many Lions Projects which benefited the community. It answered the question..what Lions project did the Lions Club support.
It was in 1984, the Cheviot Westwood Lions Club came to the Westwood Town Hall. The Lioness Club met there and the Fund Raising project was the Horse Show at Miamiattoah, Ohio.
The major fund raising in 2003 is the Mint Candy sale. The candy Mint displays are placed at various business places in the community. This year 2003, the Lions Club sponsor a youth membership drive at Westwood Town Hall. The membership drive will be from January 1st to March 24, 2003. The Lions Club donated two bicycles at $90.00, which will be given away on March 24, 2003.
I am sure that in the 21st century the Cheviot Westwood Lions Club will continue to do Lions Project in the community area. The major project is the ESL Teacher and Habitat for Humanity. The value is as follows: ESL Teacher, value, $1,800. or 750 hours, Habitat for Humanity $ 1,030. or 659 hours.
I am happy to report from recreation director that membership is ahead of 2002. It shows that Lions Club makes the difference in community. In 1998, Westwood Town Hall received several bookcases and donated books value $450. School kids for Westwood came here to enjoy what the Lions Club donated. This is after school program.
